Walk with Us: The Power of Community
Thank you to all who gave of their time, talents, and donations to our walk on Saturday, February 2, at Payne Park. We had a record number of people walking to increase awareness about violence against women. We also bypassed our goal for this event and with your help, raised more than $16,500 to support UN Women programs for women and girls around the globe.
If this was your first GCC event, we were delighted you walked with us and invite you to become more involved with our work. See below for more information.
A warm thank you to those local agencies and organizations that work to better the lives of women and girls. Joining us in this effort were:
Dining For Women Manatee Habitat for Humanity Zonta
Girl Up! (teams from Lakewood Ranch and Riverview high schools)
Manatee League of Women Voters Selah Freedom
Planned Parenthood of Southwest and Central Florida
Sarasota Police Department
Safe Place and Rape Crises Center (SPARCC)

We walk not only to educate and advocate. We walk to raise valuable funds to support UN Women programs which fight inequality and violence at its roots and provide support for women experiencing violence.
Each year, the Gulf Coast Chapter USNC for UN Women walks to raise awareness about violence against women
- and to raise funds for programs to combat the problem.
Why do we walk?
Because women and girls continue to be harmed and exploited. Worldwide, 35% of women experience physical and/or sexual intimate violence during their lifetime. That's more than one third of all women!
